Margaret Perez Salgado passed away on April 4, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by her family in Farmersville, California. Born on September 15, 1933, in a home on Linnell Street. She was the daughter of Trino and Refugia Perez. She was raised in the Farmersville area alongside her four siblings.
She graduated from 8th grade at Snowden School in Farmersville in 1947 and then graduated with the Class of ’51 at Visalia Senior High (which became Mt. Whitney). She then went to College of the Sequoias. During her 2nd year, there was a campus health screening. She and her friends decided to take the screening, and she tested positive for Tuberculosis. She was sent to Springville to be quarantined at the Tulare-Kings Joint Tubercular Hospital. She was there for 18 months.
Once healthy and returning to normal life, Margaret met Ernest Salgado in Visalia. After a brief courtship, they married and moved to Los Angeles. Margaret and Ernest had 5 children: Leonard, Trini, Edith, Larry, and Fred.
In 1968, Margaret and her 5 children moved back to Farmersville. In 1969, she was hired by the Farmersville School District as a community aide. Eventually, she became the school secretary at Snowden School, and when the new Farmersville Jr. High opened, Margaret became the school secretary there. Throughout the years, families and students got to know “Mrs. Salgado”. She retired in 1994 after 25 years. For those who had the pleasure of knowing her, they knew what a strong and beautiful person she was.
After retiring, Margaret filled her time with family, travel, and the activities she loved most. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. As their daycare provider, she played an active role in raising her grandchildren and faithfully attended their events, always reminding them she was their number one fan. In 2020, she shared that she never thought she would live to see great-grandchildren, but she was later blessed with eight.
Margaret also enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling – especially trips to the coast, camping and visits to Lake Tahoe. She traveled to many states over the years. She volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul thrift store in Farmersville and the Good News Center Kitchen, now known as the Bethlehem Center, in Visalia. She also enjoyed cruises to Mexico with the Visalia Gadabouts.
Among her most treasured memories were the annual family trips to Lake Tahoe, visits to Laughlin with her sister Rosie, and the cherished Perez Family Reunions she always looked forward to.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Big Ray, Little Ray, and Fred; her sisters Rosie Cornejo and Carmen Rodarte; and her daughter, Trini Castanon, who passed away in 2016.
Margaret leaves behind her sons Leonard, Larry, and Fred; her son-in-law Frank; her daughter Edith Stover (Russ); her granddaughter Shawna Salgado, whom she raised as a daughter; 12 other grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
