Marie Angie Speight

Marie Dias Speight, age 76, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2016. She was born on April 17, 1940, in Visalia, CA to John and Angie Dias. She was the oldest child of three siblings, Johnny Dias and Betty Odell. Marie will be remembered for her great smile, and her friendly nature.

She graduated in 1958 from Redwood High School. Marie married her high school sweetheart, Clifton Speight in 1959. After high school, Marie worked with Prudential Insurance of Visalia and then Blue Shield. Upon moving to Bakersfield she worked for Blue Cross for 5 years. Then Clifton transferred to Fresno and she went back to Prudential, retiring after 15 years.

Marie loved to read, do word puzzles and decorate her home; at one time she loved working with ceramics and sewing. While in grade school Marie joined 4-H, where she made lots of friends. Marie and Clifton are members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fresno.

Marie was preceded in death by her father, John Dias; brother, Johnny; and godchild, Jeanne Dias.

Marie is survived by her loving husband, Clifton Speight; mother, Angie Dias; sister, Betty Odell (husband Aaron); sister-in-law Elaine Dias; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she made through the years.

A Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Visalia Public Cemetery District.
