Nancy is also survived by her brother Steve Walden and his wife Shirley Walden of Bartlesville Oklahoma and their son Zachary Walden. Also surviving Nancy are two step-children (really, she was their acting mom!) Trina McNabb and Timothy McNabb, both of Visalia. Also surviving are her maternal cousins Janiece Redd and her husband Dr. Burton Redd of Visalia, Linda Radmacher and her husband Richard Radmacher of Visalia and John Steinman and his wife Sharon also of Visalia, and many second cousins.
She was preceded in death in 2016 by her wonderful husband of more than 30 years, Raymond Carrel McNabb. Also, her parents, both of Visalia. William passed in November of 1997 and Irene in December of 2006. Also preceding her in passing were her aunt and uncle, Nadine Hagerstrom Steinman and Melvin Steinman of Visalia.
Nancy was born to William R Walden and Irene Hagerstrom Walden toward the end of World War 2 in Baltimore Maryland, where her father was serving in the United States Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground. At the end of the war her parents moved to the Bay Area of California. In the early 1950’s the family moved to Beirut, Lebanon, where her father helped build the first large pipeline from Suadi Arabia to the Mediterranean Sea. In 1953, they moved to Ridgewood, New Jersey, where her father worked in Manhattan, New York. In 1959 the family moved back to Lebanon. In 1960 the family moved to Tripoli, Libya with Esso Libya (now Exxon). Nancy graduated from Wheelus Air Force Base (United States) High School in 1963 and moved in with her maternal grandparents, Alice and Art Hagerstrom in Visalia. She never left Visalia!
As a child Nancy had the opportunity to travel the world with her family. Living abroad gave her many exciting experiences. In 1963 the five members of the family went around the world, visiting Beirut, New Delhi, Bankok, Hon Kong, Kyoto, Hawaii and of course, Visalia, before taking a ship from New York to Copenhagen, Denmark, though Europe and back to Libya.
When she moved to Visalia in 1963, she attended College of the Sequoias and learned clerical skills she later used working for the County of Tulare. It was there she met Carrell McNabb. She delivered the Visalia Times Delta for many yeas in the Tulare Avenue area.
Nancy was a faithful member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Visalia at several different Wards, ending with the Sierra Ward.
After Carrel’s passing Nancy moved to the Walnut Park Retirement Home in Visalia. She really enjoyed her time and all the friends and staff there. She enjoyed reading and Wiifit bowling, crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She also gave great neck and backrubs!
She is missed.
Service will be Thursday, August 29, at 11 AM at the Sierra Ward, 4000 W Caldwell, Visalia, CA.
