Petra Dorado, a beloved, faithful, gentle, kind-hearted, and selfless woman, passed away on December 27, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 23, 1942, in Loving, New Mexico, Petra was the firstborn child and took on the responsibility of caring for her ten younger siblings, working hard to support her family.
Petra's career spanned various roles, from working in the fields as a teenager to becoming a preschool teacher in her later years. Her primary vocation, however, was as a caregiver in her senior years, during which she devotedly cared for her parents until their passing.
Petra is survived by her only child, Mona Lisa Hernandez, and her siblings Jose, Donicio, Augustine, Rosa, Ernesto, Cruz, Pedro, Maria, and Merced Jr. Dorado. She was preceded in death by her parents, Merced and Eufracia (Yslas) Dorado, and her sister, Alicia Lopez.
Her personal life was marked by her devotion to helping others, often assisting elderly friends from her church when she was not working. Petra was a dedicated member of the Guadalupe Society at Holy Family Church, where she read the Bible and prayed the rosary daily. She will be remembered as one of the most humble and kind souls, living as a true example of her Catholic faith through service to others.
The family extends their gratitude to everyone who visited Petra in her later life. Although her illness gradually diminished her strength, she remained faithful and kind. The family finds solace in knowing she is at peace, free from pain and suffering, and now resides with the Lord, experiencing eternal peace, love, and joy.
Visitation will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA, on January 12, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, with the Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:00 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1908 North Court Street, Visalia, CA, on January 13, 2026, at 10:30 am, followed by interment at Visalia Public Cemetery District, 1300 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, CA, at 12:00 pm.
