Rebecca Salcedo Duran

Rebecca Salcedo Duran was born on April 12th, 1948 in Visalia, CA to Antonio and Eunice Salcedo. Rebecca was one of seven children and the second born (Anna, Rebecca, Diana, Antonio, Barbara, Jesse, and Patricia).

Rebecca graduated from Redwood High School in 1966. After graduation, Rebecca took a handful of required college courses and she aced them all. On December 7th, 1970 at the tender age of 22 years old, Rebecca began what would become her lifelong career - a Program Support Specialist for the non-profit organization, Proteus, Inc. Rebecca proudly and graciously served her community in this role for 51 years!

On March 24th, 1973 Rebecca joined Eddie Duran in holy matrimony. During the course of their marriage, Rebecca gave birth to her eldest daughter, Yvonne, on September 2nd, 1973. Tragically, just one month later, Rebecca lost her husband on October 14th, 1973. This same year, Rebecca also lost her younger brother, Tony Salcedo. Despite these heartbreaking losses, Rebecca persevered with grace and strength, uplifted by the love she had for her precious baby girl and her family.

On August 13th, 1986, with Alex Bernard, Rebecca welcomed her youngest daughter, Nicole. Alex, Rebecca, Yvonne and Nicole enjoyed life together as a family until Alex's passing on October 30th, 1990.

Rebecca will be remembered as a lively, energetic, strong, bright, loving woman with a huge heart. In life, Rebecca enjoyed her trips to the casino where her good luck almost always had her in the money! Rebecca was a humble woman who found joy in all of life's simple pleasures - a great sitcom, a strong cup of coffee with a lot of cream, a new lipstick, and the company of friends and family. Rebecca loved to travel with her daughters and enjoyed many vacations to Cabo, Santa Barbara, and Lake Tahoe, to name a few. The love and kindness Rebecca gave is imprinted on the hearts of those who knew her forever.

Rebecca is survived by her siblings Anna Munoz, Barbara Salcedo, Jesse Salcedo; her children Yvonne Peterson (Tom Peterson) and Nicole Bernard-Reyes (Lawrence Reyes); and her grandchildren Justin Peterson and Erik Peterson.
