Ronald Jerome Hughes was born to Leonard and Opal Hughes on December 9th, 1944. He was the youngest of 8 children, 4 of his siblings are still living: 2 brothers Lynn and Neil and 2 sisters Doris and Viola. He was born and grew up in the Long Beach area.
As a young man Ron volunteered for the draft and drove a bridge tank for the Army. He served state side at Fort Hood in Texas for two years. It was shortly after he returned from the Army that he married his first wife, Linda in 1965. Together they had two sons, Alan and Ronnie, and one daughter Shari.
Ron moved to the Dinuba/Orosi area in the summer of 1971. Where he met and married his second wife Patricia in 1972. They had two sons Brian and Jerry. Ron was highly recommended as a skilled painter and took pride in doing a good job. He passed along his good work ethic and attention to detail to his younger sons as they worked along side him while growing up. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. While talking with family it was noted that he had a great love for dogs, especially Doberman Pincers, and he never passed up a good meal. Ron was a man of few words who was willing to help anyone in need. He opened his home to many relatives over the years.
It was just before his third marriage to Joyce in 1987 that Ron gained victory over his battle with alcohol. He remained sober for the remainder of his life, over 22 years. Joyce passed away in 1998 and Ron remained a widower until his own death on November 11th, 2010. He is survived by 4 siblings, 5 children, and many grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held at the Visalia Evangelical Free Church, 1305 W. Main St. Visalia, CA 93291 on Sat. Nov. 20th at 11am. The family is asking that in lieu of flowers donations be made to help cover final expenses.
