Roy joined the military at the age of 17 in 1951. He served until 1954. Roy was a man of honor, who selflessly and proudly defended our country alongside many others. The honor he gained in service was etched into his spirit and was reflected in every aspect of his life. Following his military service, he worked hard as a mechanical engineer. He hardly ever missed a day of work until his retirement.
At the young age of 17, he married Norma Jean Pittser on July 20, 1952 and was happily married until her passing in 1984. Together they have five children. He was preceded in death by his son, Randy Lee. He is survived by his sons, Steven Glen, Curtis Wayne, and Dean Allen Richardson, and his daughter, Darla Jean Echevarria. Roy raised his children to live their life with honor and gratitude, to treat everyone with love and respect.
Roy was blessed to find love again and on April 19, 1999, he married Ruthie Christene Nixon. With this happy union, Roy added four children into his family, Fae Winters, Vickie Newell, Cindy Peine, and Brian Fendley.
Roy left behind a legacy of love, honor, and joy with his 31 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandson. He was a beloved grandpa who loved to frequently let his grandchildren eat candy despite their parents disapproval and enjoyed defying gravity with acrobats that only a grandpa would attempt. He would do anything to make us all laugh. There is not a day that will go by that we will not miss his laugh.
Roy spent his whole life loving the Lord with all his heart. The love of God poured through him to everyone in his path. Roy’s life was spent in service to country, family, and God.
