Carolyn Yates

WEST COLUMBIA – Funeral services for Carolyn J. Yates, 79, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel with interment to follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at the chapel.

Carolyn was born September 24, 1936 in Columbia, SC and passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Ruby Brown. Carolyn retired after 22 years as a Legal Assistant. She graduated with honors from Midlands Technical Institute. Carolyn was a long standing member at Springdale Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, foster mother, as well as a mother to anyone in need. Carolyn enjoyed many activities, including playing harmonica, dominos, spending time in Lowe’s and her yard, and playing cards with the lap ladies. In her spare time she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carolyn is survived by her son, Michael Lawrence Yates, Sr. (Debra); daughters, Sheila Yates Senn (William), Daisy Marie Yates-Smith; grandchildren, Michael Lawrence Yates, Jr., Amanda Tatum (Matthew), Alexandria Yates, Tara Jeffers Greenwood (Eric), William T. Senn, Courtney Morgan Senn, Christopher Paul Adkins, Ashley Nicole Adkins,; great-grandchildren, Riley Edward Yates, Gracie Tatum, Molly Tatum, Jude Tatum, Andrew Jace Harney, Ms. Avery Leann Senn, Hayden Jeffcoat, Jayda Adkins; brothers, David Brown (Flonise), Larry Brown (Becky); sister, Connie Walker; son-in-law, Rex Adkins. She was predeceased by her husband, Wylie “W. L.” Yates, Jr.; daughter, Wanda “Lori” Lorraine Yates Adkins; brothers, Gene Brown and Ray Brown; sister, Elizabeth “Babs” Forbes.
