Born May 6, 1935, he was the son of Daniel Eleazer Sr., and Sabie Williamson Shumpert. DE was a lifelong resident of South Congaree, SC.
His first retirement was from Smith Trucking Company. He was not one to sit still. He later opened DeeEee Equipment Company, his own truck and body fabrication shop.
A large vegetable garden was a hobby that he dearly loved and shared with family and friends. Another hobby included camping, where he provided the entertainment around the campfire with jokes and laughter.
DE was predeceased by his parents, and his son, John Thomas (Tommy) Shumpert.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lindy Ann Sturkie Shumpert; his son, Wayne Shumpert (Debbie); his daughters, LaDonna Gail Kelly (Butch) and Glenda Brazell (Mike), as well as 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grands who affectionately called him Poppy. He is also survived by his sisters, Violet Crumpton and Rose Spires.
Services will be Tuesday, February 20th at Caughman Harman Funeral Home located at 820 W. Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow the service at Southland Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to Crossroads World Outreach Center, 2606 Emanuel Church Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
