Doris Newman

Her life’s passion was caring for her family. As the years passed her family would grow in numbers with each one of her children having their own and them giving her great grandchildren. Her children’s friend's would grow to love her like their own, giving her the nickname, Momma D. She believed that cooking brought families together. She was always ready to feed a house full of the people she called family and loved. Known for her fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, and sweet tea. They would line up at out the door to get a plate. When she wasn’t cooking you could find her drinking a cold Mr. Pibb with Moo Moo “Elsie Moo” by her side. Days of Our Lives or The News on the T.V. and a crossword puzzle in her hand.

She was predeceased by her husband John Jasper Newman; son, Leland Warren Jr.; and daughter, Freda Broach (George Corley). She is survived by her son, Benjamin Newman (Ashley Baugher); Daughter in-law, Crystal Black; grandchildren, Erin Broach (Amanda Bryant), Ashley Collins (Patrick Collins), Leland “Drake” Warren and Morgan Newman; along with her great-grandchildren, Trinity, Payton, Alex, Brooklyn and McCoy.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at the Chapel of Hope, Southland Gardens with entombment to follow in the mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.
