Douglas was a quiet and soft spoken man, who had a great love for nature and making things grow. He was a self employed landscaper who put his mark on many outdoor spaces in downtown Columbia, as well as many residential landscapes in and around the Columbia area.
Among his greatest loves was music. He was a very talented self taught guitarist. Some of his happiest years were spent playing music with a local band. He could play those acoustic hits just as good as his favorite guitarist Chuck Berry.
If you knew Douglas well, you knew he loved his family. His old family photo albums were his treasures. He truly loved visits from his grandchildren. He would often tear up when any of his visiting grandchildren had to leave. He loved them so much.
Last but certainly not least, was his love of Gamecock football. In his younger years, he would sit in his favorite chair with a transistor radio on a table and listen to the game. In his later years, living as a resident at the Heritage at Lowman, his room was clearly occupied by a Gamecock fan. It was a rare occasion to see him without his hat on. He'll be cheering on his team from Heaven.
Daddy, we will miss you, ~Crystal, Teresa, Doug~
