I was so very fortunate to sit under Reverend Simmons leadership as my pastor for several years in the early to latter 1960s.. I had this old beat up trumpet that someone had given to me and furthermore had no clue as how to play it..I loved the old song " I'd Rather Have Jesus " so one day I sat down with a pencil a piece of paper and began to write down which valves on the trumpet to hold down to make the notes that I needed.. It took me hours to get it done, but I finally finished it.. I practiced that song all week long and finally felt that I'd like to try and play it in Church on Sunday morning.. I talked to Pastor Simmons about what I had done and wanted to know if he thought it would be possible to let me try it.. I had NEVER done anything like this in my entire life but I felt that Jesus wanted me to do it. Pastor Simmons put his big ole hand on my skinny little shoulder and said " I'll call you up when I'm ready for you " .. I was petrified but I knew I was doing God's will.. When offering time came, he called me up.. He let everyone know who I was and what I had been doing all week.. There were a few hand claps which made me more nervous.. I began to play the song and it was just as Jesus had His fingers over the top of mine and I just completely relaxed.. It went over wonderful.. That is one of the main reasons My wife, one of our friends and myself started a music ministry years later seeing many lives changed to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.. Thank you so much for that wonderful opportunity so many years ago Pastor Simmons !!

Pastor Simmons was an inspiration to us for many years.  We extend our sincere sympathy to the Simmons family.  Yet, we know that his passing is also a celebration of the VICTORY he won in this life.  We'll see you in Zion later, Pastor.  Thank you dearly for your love and discipleship.

Although I never knew you, you meant the world to me because of your tender love and care of my dearest friends, Dawn and Joe. After Joe died, you and your precious family held Dawn close and comforted her through unspeakable grief. Then you held her hand when the sun began to dawn again and blessed her as she began a new life with Bill. I will forever be grateful and am proud to call Nova a friend.

Papa Jesse will be missed by many! From the stories I've read his impact in this world will continue not with family alone but with countless others who were touched by his life.  My love and hugs to the family! May peace fill your hearts more each day :-)

I was so sad to hear of Uncle Jesse's passing.  He was always there for my Mother, Rose Marie, when she needed him, and he  continued to check on us, her children and his sister Virginia's grandchildren as we coped with her passing.  I know they are all together now, celebrating in God's glory!

Every so often in life someone comes a long that leaves a forever impression on a life. Bro. Simmons was that someone to me. Praying for his family and friends. He is where he longed to be!

Last time I spoke with him , he let me know how their church had the money to build a home in Belize for the missionaries and they were going to build it this year.  He never quit building for God's Kingdom, spiritually or physically.  I'm sure Father has said,  Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. Mat. 25:21  Brother Jessie, you are missied but may your smile and life be contagious.

I was so blessed by the Home Going service of Dr. Simmons. It was a great service and a true testament to the life of this great man. One of the things that impressed me so much with Dr. Simmons was how he always had time for everyone and how he encouraged me as a new minister in our Conference. He never shrugged from his standing in the Conference was found faithful to every event. I feel truly blessed having got the privilege to know Brother Jesse even for the short time I got to know him. He will be missed beyond comment. Thank you Brother Jesse for staying active and living after so many have quit...

"To the Family" - He was a well loved Godly man and will be greatly missed.  But we all know that he is having a great time with our Savior at this time.  He will see us all again one day, if we all know the Lord.  We will keep you'll in our prayers.

To the Family and Friends our prayers are with you all. I will truely miss this man alot! He was not only a Man of God but... He was a friend to our Family. He would visit alot of times in the home of my parents (Rev. John J. and Betty Newton) Wherever,you would meet him he would always treat you with great respect, show the Love He had for others and the Great Love for God. He treated us 4 kids like his own-He loved us all. The last time he was over to visit my parents I came in and there sat the two of them Bro. Jesse and Mrs. Alfreda just enjoying fellowship with my parents. Much laughter was there that day but... oh the Love you felt within.  He will truely be missed by our family.To the children and their children - My parents also would like for me to say- They love you all so very much and they are speaking for the entire Newton Family!

To the Family and Friends- Our prayers are with you all- Bro. Simmons left an impact on my life for many years. It was always so good to hear him speak of God and just have fellowship with him in the home of my parents many times. (Rev. John and Betty Newton) He treated us 4 kids as his own when we always came in room- wherever that would be. And third-There was no one else like him but... you could just see and feel the love from him. I will truely miss this man alot. He was my friend and a man that cared for our family always! Brother Simmons was our friend.  We worked under his supervision for eight years when he was Director of World Missions.  We loved him like a brother and still can hardly believe he is gone from us.  We honor his memory.  Our love to the family.

The Wake was a beautiful set up, Pastor Simmons will truly be missed! He loved each and every one of us. He is now with his heavenly Father rejoicing!

Pastor Jesse Simmons was a friend and a pastor for me. I was glad when, two years ago he wanted to visit us in Romania. And he did and I was privileged to be with him. He ministered in a tremendous way to our pastors. Than I had the privilege to visit him in the US. Great memories. You will be missed.

Pastor Simmons will truly be missed. In just the few 4 years I have known him, it was very obvious that he was a man after God's own heart and his desire to reach the lost was strong and passionate. The C.H. Chavis family is very sadden to learn of the passing of Pastor Simmons. He was always a faithful Shepherd of our Lord and Savior with many visits to all of our family members when in the hospital and to our dad during his illness and again when he spoke so eloquently at his funeral. It will be difficult not seeing him at many of the churches functions but we know he will be present for the great function in the air when our Lord returns to call his children home. I first met Pastor Simmons in October 2006 when my husband was diagnoised with lung cancer.  He and his wife Alfreda came to the hospital when he my sister-in-law reached out to him.  He walked a long walk with my husband and me and ministered to us during that difficult year.  When my husband passed away - he ministerd to our family and friends at the service, even though he had knee replacement surgery a few weeks before.  He and his family opened thier hearts and homes to me and invited me toparticipate family celebrations with them.  Recently I remarried and he said the blessing at our wedding.  I can say he came into my life during a period that was very dark and I refer to that as Chapter One.  He and his family taught me much during Chapter Two - My Growing Period - learning to have Grace and Trust God, and he was there as I started the Chapter 3 of my life, A New Beginning.  There will be many more chapters to come, but I will miss my adopted earthly father, Jesse Simmons.   He blessed my life more times than I can count. While he is not longer on earth with us, his legacy lives on through his wonderful family, who I proudly refer to as 'My Adopted Sisters and Brother'.  I will miss you.  Dawn Cole-Black

Brother Simmons is sadly  missed by the Fannins of Eastern  Europe. I was so happy that Jesse was able to come to this part of the world this past year.  He ministered and blessed the Hungarians and Romanians one more time. Now it is time for his reward. Dave and Linda

Uncle Jesse was a legend! We will miss deeply his spiritual leadership within our family and in the worldwide body of Christ. We'll never forget the sharing, the laughter and joyous times we had when together and the depth of his sermons, which greatly impacted us. Brother Simmons laid his hands on me and ordained me into the ministry in 1987.He prophesied over me and his prophecy became true. Earth's loss is surely heaven's gain!

Our prayers are with all of you at this time.  Heaven is sounding sweeter all the time.  Had a good long talk with Brother Simmons at Camp Meeting. He always had time to talk with us, no matter how busy he was.  Cherish the memories and remember, we will be joining him soon.  God Bless you all.

I bless the memory of Dr. J.D. Simmons. He carried himself with dignity. Even though only Heaven knows the extent of his ministry accomplishments, I remember him more as always being positive and upbeat, even when negative things came against him.

I was privileged to serve with him first as a pastor in the Congaree District (Columbia) when he was pastor at Ebenezer and I was pastor at Lexington.  We later served together in conference leadership in Lake City, SC (we were neighbors-our homes were back to back).  Our offices were across the hall from each other when he was Assistant Superintendent and I was CE Director.  He then moved down the hall to the superintendent's office.  I guess you could say he was promoted and I remained in the same office. LOL

We served together in Oklahoma City on the General Executive Board of our denomination, the International Pentecostal Holiness Church from 1993 to 1997 when he was Executive Director of World Missions and I was Executive Director of Church Education Ministries.  He was also Vice-Chairman and I was Assistant General Superintendent. 

He helped preach our mother's funeral in 1983.  He assisted me in marrying our oldest son, Bronson, in 1985 (the first wedding in the new Lake City Church after the fire destroyed the old one).  

Our prayers go out to Alfreda and all the family members. You are a special family with a great heritage.

I was saddened to here of the passing of Reverand Simmons, I remember him from when I was a little girl at Ebenezer. He was wonderful man of God and he will be soley missed. May God be with you and give you the comforting spirit that he is with the Lord shouting glory!

Bro. Simmons has always had a special place in my heart since he became my pastor in 1957 at Ebenezer PH church.  I have many fond memories of our times together as a church family.   He was always a very kind and loving man of God.  He has touched so many people through his ministry and his legacy will go on and on.  He has run his race and received his reward for his faithfulness to God.  We must do the same to meet him on the other side of this world.  I know he is rejoicing with Sis. Simmons, my Mom and Dad, and all those gone on before him.  May God sustain you in these days ahead and bring gladness to your hearts knowing where he is, there you can go too.
