Lillie Eller Chavis

Born November 12,1934 Lillie Eller Chavis passed away peacefully at her home July 5, 2025 at the age of 90. Daughter of the late John B. and Mary S. Varn. Preceded in death by three sisters and five brothers, she was the last surviving sibling.

She married the love of her life Morris J. Chavis at the age of 15, and they grew old together. Married for 75 years, they had five children, two deceased sons (Morris Chavis, Jr. and Horace Chavis).

Survived by her husband Morris J. Chavis; daughters: Doris (John Wyatt) of West Columbia and Dorothy (Wayne Rouse) of West Columbia; and son Johnny (Donna) of Gaston). Grandchildren John Jr (Cori Wyatt) of Gaston, Sherry Wyatt of West Columbia, Terry (Matt Harding) of West Columbia, Crystal (Doug Berley) of Little Mountain, Rickey Jacobs, Jr. of Lugoff. Great Grandchildren Tyler Wyatt, Austin Hankins, Meagan Berley and Dillon Harding.

She loved Jesus and served Him with joy and faithfulness. She was a prayer warrior for her family, known as Nanny. She was always a phone call away. If ever an angel walked the earth, it was her. She loved her family with passion, devotion, and dedication. She loved gardening, singing, and cooking. You’d never leave her home without a glass of sweet tea. She taught us to pray, how to build and keep a home, to love ourselves and our families, and for us girls how to make gravy. You’re so missed but never forgotten. We carry you with us every day. You impacted us all differently, but we know you loved us.

Jesus has a new angel in the choir, and I can hear you singing. We look forward to the day we all reunite in our Heavenly Home.

Memorial service to honor Mrs. Lillie’s life will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at the Caughman-Harman Chapel at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and loved ones beginning at 10 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m.
