Michael Eugene Knott, 68, was born on September 29, 1954 in Columbia, South Carolina and passed away on June 20, 2023. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Alexander Knott and his father, William Knott.
Michael attended Eau Claire High School and trade school to become an automotive paint technician. Mike, as we knew him, was a proud dad and Papa. He was a loving stepdad to Cameron Runyan and a loving dad to Whitney Knott Fennell. He was there for soccer and football games for Cameron. And dance recitals and pageants for Whitney.
Mike’s passions were our children, fishing, and hunting. He, Cameron and Whitney often fish from the bank of a near pond. He was working as an automotive paint technician. When it was time for Cameron to drive, Mike bought a damaged Honda and repaired it for Cameron‘s first car. He loved watching Cameron practice driving with Whitney in his car going around our driveway when it was Whitney‘s turn to drive. He fixed up a Toyota for her also.
At the age of 45 Mike decided it was time to change careers. He had always wanted to be an over the road driver, just like his dad, so he went to school to learn to drive freight trucks and earned his CDL. He recently retired from Old Dominion after 15 years. In the last years of his life, Mike also found time to rescue animals in need. He gave money to help rescue neglected, and abused animals also.
Later in life, he was blessed with seven grandchildren. Cameron and Jenni Runyan gave him 4 beautiful girls: Liesel Runyan, Ella Grace Runyan, Libby Runyan and Kate Runyan. He was the proud father of the bride when his daughter, Whitney, married Lakelan Fennell. He was there on the day Whitney gave birth to his grandson, Jax Fennell. Lakelan brought him two grandchildren from a previous marriage, Brooke Fennell, and Bayley Fennell.
Mike leaves behind his loving wife of 43 years, Susan Beth Knott and his younger sister, Vickie Alexander, niece, McKenzie Alexander and nephew, Jordan Alexander.
A visitation for Michael will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 1:00 PM. Following the visitation will be a funeral service at 2:00 PM at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home - West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Rd, West Columbia, South Carolina 29170.
