She pursued higher education with determination, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Health and Health Care Administration and Management from Kaplan University with a 3.8 GPA. Earlier in life, she completed a Certificate of Medical Office Assistant and Specialist from the National Education Center from 1993 to 1995, where she received hands on clinical training including patient care, vital signs, injections, venipuncture, and urinalysis.
Her career was dedicated to service and care for others. Monica worked as a Claims Specialist with Colonial Life in Columbia, South Carolina, demonstrating diligence and compassion. She also served as a Mortgage Pricing Agent with NetBank and a Child Development Home Program Manager with the Navy’s Regional Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program, supporting military families and ensuring quality care.
Monica was previously married to Uzziah Allison, with whom she shared over twenty years of marriage and raised their three children, Jonathan Allison, Kimberly Copeland, and Jeremy Allison. She was a devoted grandmother to Gianna Allison, Christian Allison, Jonathan Allison Jr., Emily Allison, and Kristina Copeland. Monica was also a loving sister to Orlando Ruff and Noah Taylor and a devoted aunt to Mikayla Taylor, Amaya Taylor, and Adeline Ruff. She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry Ruff and Ophelia Ruff.
Monica's magnetic personality was characterized by confidence, warmth, humor, and honesty. She loved music, especially Toni Braxton, and had a deep appreciation for style and self-expression. She was known for her straightforwardness and individuality.
Her community involvement through healthcare administration and military family programs reflected her sense of responsibility and care for others. Monica will be remembered as strong, honest, loving, and unforgettable. Her legacy lives on through her family and the many lives she touched.
