

West Columbia, SC – Ronald Alfred Campbell, Sr., age 83, went to Heaven on Thursday, July 8, 2021, where he met Jesus, Dottie, his wife of 47 years, daughter Renee and countless loved ones already there. Ronald was born on April 4, 1938 in Rock Hill, SC to the late Roy Campbell and Isabel Dillingham Copeland (William Curtis). Ronald is predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Riley Leroy Campbell, Roger Patton Campbell, Cecil Campbell and Charles Campbell; daughter, Linda Renee Campbell and beloved wife, Barbara (Dottie) Lee Overby Campbell.
Ronald was well known for his hand-built reproductions of antique furniture, and the repairing and refinishing of antique furniture. Ronald’s lifelong career began in 1967 at Saffron’s Antique Gallery and Charlton Hall Gallery until 1972 when he went into business for himself. Ronald’s master craftsmanship reproductions can be found in the SC Governor’s Mansion, Chestnut Cottage Bed and Breakfast, homes and offices of Attorney Frank Robinson, Senator Richard A. Harpootlian, just to name a few throughout SC, celebrities Leon Russell and Liberace. His heirlooms are also treasured in the homes of family and friends. In an article written in 1975, Ronald was quoted, “I’ve built thousands of pieces of furniture. I could give you a lifetime guarantee, because I’ll be dead before it ever falls apart.”
Ronald also had a passion for antique cars, was a member of the Early Wheels Car Club and enjoyed attending car shows. He was an avid collector of old Stanley Hand Planes. He enjoyed exploring flea markets and tool shows in search of old hand planes that he could refurbish, sell, trade and collect.
Ronald is survived by daughter, Rhonda C. Garrison (Del); son, Ronald A Campbell, Jr. (Cindy); grandchildren, Garrett R. Campbell, Adam D. Chapiesky, Bailey C. McCormick (Josh), Ashlyn R. Chapiesky and great granddaughter, Presley Jean McCormick.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to all of the staff at Agape Hospice House on Stoneridge Drive in Columbia, SC. A sincere and special thank you to Ronald’s honorary Agape grandchildren: Khadidra Wormley, Ashley Suber, Jameal Singleton, Tamara Rutland, Pamela Hutson-Poates, Bonnie Council, Richard Cates, and Dr. Stephanie Burgess. Words are not enough to express our most sincere gratitude for the loving, personal and special care and attentiveness that you provided around the clock for the past three years for “Papa.”
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 12, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Southland Memorial Gardens, 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170 with Pastor Tom Atten presiding and Caughman-Harman Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Dunn’s Chapel Church, 281 Chapel Road, West Columbia, SC 29172.
