Dennie was born January 12, 1917 to Louis and Abbie (Taylor) Jones in Waco, Texas. He was a loving father and devoted husband, but his greatest pride was his three grandchildren. He graduated from Wiley College with a BA in Chemistry and pledged Omega Psi Phi. He served with honor in World War II as a Sergeant in the Army, after which he moved to Chicago where he met the love of his life and the woman he later convinced to marry him. Together they raised their two sons. After retiring from the US Postal Service, he became the Matre’d of the Hyatt Regency Chicago Banquet Halls. He retired in 1986, to return to Waco to be among his multiple brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins in Texas. Gardening and music were his most favorite pastimes. He was also a proud longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waco.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and seven brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Willa; sons, Dennie and Louis; daughter-in-law Mikki; three grandchildren, Danielle, Vance, and Marissa; sisters, Irma, Juanda and Martha; and brother, Isaac. Among those closest to him were his niece and nephew, Sharon and Earl. He also leaves behind many friends who touched him and were touched by him, some of whom have already gone on ahead of him.
