He was simply the best.  I flew with him in the 21st Special Operations Squadron, NKP, Thailand.  Nothing like him in the world!

He was a formidable opponent in intramural sports...A fierce competitor!   I was also in the class of 1971 at USAFA.  Our 7th squadron competed with his teams.

  We were saddened to hear of his passing  

The academy will have some sort of remembrance at the next reunion

I was saddened to learn of Michael’s passing through the USAFA Association of Graduates.  I came to know “Big Mike Groman” as we affectionately knew him at the United States Air Force Academy, during our first year at the Academy.  He and I were in the same temporary Summer Squadron (“D Squadron “) learning how to become a good Basic Cadet before we joined 11th Squadron.  Though I did not know him well because we were in different hallways and freshmen cadets were not allowed the freedom to wander around and visit our classmates, I did share many meal tables with him.  I always held him in high esteem.  My clearest memory of him was the Great pride he had in his home town.  In fact, he often introduced himself as “Cadet Michael F Gorman from Waco Texas.”  He was a mountain of a man to me, but sincere and a genuine friend.  I will miss him.


Mike,
You were like a 2nd grandpa to my kids and an uncle to me. I am so glad you came into our lives. It was obvious that you and my mom were close as children because you argued like siblings as an adult. It was probably because you two were the grandkids the closest in age.  I only wish we got to spend more time with you. 

A memory that stands out to me is my wedding. The Catholic deacon decided to make a statement about gay and lesbian couples at my wedding, instead of talking about Jeff and I. “Marriage was meant for Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.” I still remember hearing you chuckle from the audience. My mom thought she was going to have to grab the back of my dress. I also remember Andrea losing her skirt at the rehearsal and showing everyone her spanx. There are so many more over the years that I would run out of space.  You visiting every Christmas, being Santa Claus, being there for important moments in our lives, etc  

I know you lost your belief in God as an adult. But, I know you are in heaven with your beautiful wife you lost too soon.

When our children were young, the Ferris Family &  the Groman Family used to get together quite often for cookouts and games.  I remember Mike, in finding a quiet place to read.  I remember his dad, Frank, being a dedicated Boy Scouts leader, giving Mike a good foundation to qualify for acceptance to the Air Force Academy.  I remember Mike  proudly telling of his experiences as a USAF helicopter pilot.

May his Soul and the Souls of all the faithful departed REST IN PEACE!

Memorial Service

He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother, Norma Hawkins Groman, sister, Helen Groman and brother, Chris Groman.

Survivors include siblings, David Groman of Waco, Tommy Coleman and spouse Lori of Waco, David Coleman and spouse Debbie of West, Texas, Kay Coleman Jones of Mexia, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews and close cousins.
