Milton L. Cortez Sr., 88, passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 in a local hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Elder Jason Dove officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
Milton was born March 10, 1922 in Oglesby, Texas to Apolonio and Silveria Luevanos Cortez. In 1940, he met the love of his life, Rosa, who waited for him to return from his tour of duty during World War II. They were married on May 6, 1946. Milton served with the Military Police in the 9th Army Air Force. He was decorated with the European Asian Middle Eastern Campaign medal with five bronze stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory medal, Marksman Pistol medal, among other awards.
Milton worked for Towne Services, Waco ISD, and W.A.C.O. Radio. He was an annual contributor to United Way. He was a loyal follower of his sons’ and grandsons’ baseball participation and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Thelma Sparks.
Those left behind to cherish Milton’s memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Rosa Cortez; children, Sylvia Carrizales and husband, Reyes, Milton Cortez Jr. and wife, Sandy, Jim Cortez, Geneva Spivey, and Greg Cortez; grandchildren, Tina Newman, Shannon Olivarez, Kristan Carrizales, Milton “Trey” Cortez III, Seth Sparks, and Sage Spivey; great grandchildren, Bryce Maibauer, Jaime Lerma, Dailen Olivarez, and Ryan Maibauer; great great grandchild, Farrah Maibauer; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Family would like to acknowledge the staff of Bluebonnet and Providence Hospice for the love and care given to Milton.
