A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 3 from 6-7pm with a Rosary service starting at 7pm at Connally-Compton Funeral Directors, 4400 West Waco Drive, Waco. A Funeral Mass will be at 10am on Wednesday, April 4 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Waco.
Paul Gutierrez was born July 5, 1926 in Clifton Texas to Andres and Juanita Gutierrez.
He attended Aquilla and Waco schools. He married Miss Rosa Bravo on August 15, 1950 in Waco Texas.
He lived in Luling Texas when he joined the Army and served in World War II. He was stationed in Okinawa Japan as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne division. He served as artillery man and cook. He was very proud of his service in the army and felt honored to be called a veteran.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church since 1959. He served as a member of the GI Forum and the Mutualista de Jornaleros.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Rosa Gutierrez of Waco, his sons Stephen Paul Gutierrez of Waco and Stanley Gutierrez of Houston; grandchildren Christy Denise Sais of Waco, Candace Marie Gutierrez of Houston; and great grandson Arturo Sais III of Waco.
Paul had many friends and will be remembered as a faithful and devoted husband. He and Rosa were married for 61 years. Unlike many men, Paul was never shy or ashamed to be seen by passer bys as he held his wife’s purse while she shopped at her favorite stores. He was a devoted father and was always there to help his sons in time of need. He loved “his girls” – a devoted grandfather that never faltered when his granddaughters needed a hug, a bandaid or a journey to the far off lands of the Waco Zoo.
Paul loved God, his Family and Friends. He was loved dearly by his family and will be greatly missed.
Paul’s family would like to give a very special thank you to Providence Hospice, the Visiting Angels, and Maria Morales for their love and unending support and care.
Memorials can be made in Paul’s name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
