Roy Lee Gray, 86, of Waco, passed away at home in his sleep on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Bro. Harley Gordon and Bro. Reggie Blake officiating. Burial will follow at Greenbriar Cemetery near Gatesville. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 26, 2010 at the funeral home.
Roy Lee was born June 18, 1924 in King, Texas to Roy T. and Berttie (Jones) Gray. Roy married the love of his life, Bettie Jo Burt, on November 12, 1948. He was a WWII veteran serving in the Army. He enjoyed painting many pictures and writing poetry, books for children, and books about WWII and God. He retired from the V.A. Hospital after 30 years and still went there 3 days a week to exercise. Roy loved the Lord and was a faithful servant. He was a longtime member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church and taught there for over 48 years.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents; and loving wife of 59 years, Bettie Jo Gray, who passed away on May 28, 2008.
Those left behind to cherish Roy’s memory are his sons, Jerry Gray and wife, Barbara, of Sugar Land, and Gary Gray and wife, Pam, of Waco; daughters, Bettie Smith and husband, Layton, of Lorena, and Rose Leet; former son-in-law, Tom Leet; grandchildren, Gregg and wife, Nicole, Deana, Brian, Kyle, Chastity, Brett, Angela, and David; and great grandchildren, Kennedy, Owen, Koby, Alanah, Caleb, and Lilin.
