Shirley Ann Love

Shirley Ann Love of Valley Mills, TX was a caring wife, momma, nanny, sister, aunt and friend. She left this world on February 9, 2022 at the age of 86. Shirley was born in Waco, TX, to W.T. and Geraldine (Stevens) Smith on August 18, 1935.

She married her soulmate, Arlis “Lynn” Love, on July 26, 1952 in the living room of her parents’ home, and they would have celebrated 70 years of marriage this year. Shirley was a dedicated and loving momma to Donna and Lisa and doting nanny to five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

In her spare time, Shirley enjoyed scrapbooking, baking cakes for special occasions, and could often be found cutting a rug at The Grove Community Center or Sul Ross Dance Club with her sweetheart Lynn.

After moving to Valley Mills, Shirley was an active member of the First Baptist Church, the Bosque Valley Heritage Society and the Domino Darlings. She was happiest surrounded by family playing a game of croquet, dominos, or cards, lovingly teased by her family for changing the rules as she played. Shirley was loved by all who met her and will be missed dearly.

A visitation celebrating the life of Shirley Love will be held at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at Connally Compton Funeral Directors in Waco followed by a graveside service at 10:00 am on February 16, 2022 at Waco Memorial Park.

Mrs. Love is preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by daughter Donna (Love) Bankhead and husband Jerry of McGregor, daughter Lisa (Love) Plemons of Valley Mills, brother Bill Smith and wife Ruth of Valley Mills, brother Bobby Smith and wife Kay of Waco, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
