

Born on August 1, 1948, in Paia, Maui, Cornwell was the beloved son of Joseph and Maryann Kaiwi. He was preceded in passing by his siblings Joseph, Kaehukai “Kay,” Eva, Frank, Mamo, David, baby Kaiwi.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Erilyn; his son Clint (Kalei) Kaiwi; his daughters Chanel “Pohai” (Terrance) and Evelyn “Kuulei” (Edgar); his sister Maile Williams of Haiku; his cherished grandchildren Kyle Kalani, Karina Mahealani, Fabian Ikaika, Alexander Kaleo, Kaua, Arley, Kamakoa, Evalina Kahealani, Kitelyn, Kami, and Kiersten; and his great-grandchildren Xander, Cordelia, and Rayne. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will always carry his memory in their hearts.
Cornwell was a devoted husband, father, papa, and great-papa who loved his ʻohana deeply. He was a proud graduate of Farrington High School, Class of 1966, and went on to serve his country with honor. Cornwell joined the United States Navy in 1967 and dedicated 27 years of service during the Vietnam era, Persian Gulf, and Desert Storm. Pearl Harbor (Public Work Center Department} (PWC) and MECO. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and the way he took care of his family.
Cornwell will be remembered for his love for his ʻohana, his stories, his strength, and the quiet way he showed aloha to everyone around him.
Services for Cornwell will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints – Stake Center, located at 125 W. Kamehameha Avenue in Kahului, Maui. Public visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 10:30 a.m., with the funeral service to follow from 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Lunch will be served afterward. Burial will take place on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Makawao Veterans Cemetery.
