

David was born at Paia Hospital and raised in Haliimaile, Maui. As a child he swam in Haliimaile Irrigation Ditch, was a member of the Boy Scouts, and went to O-Bon fest in Paia. He held his first job at Maui Land and Pineapple Company, Inc.. He became an avid martial artist, loved music, fishing, and worked in auto body repair and painting. In 1966, he started in the US Army serving in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. In the 80’s he owned Hasegawa Appliance. During his leisure time, he enjoyed time with family, enjoying pupu and drinking with his friends, singing karaoke, and golfing. After retirement he enjoyed his loved ones and being home with his grandchildren. He will be remembered lovingly by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews whom he loved and cared for till the last days of his life.
David was preceded in death by his siblings: Carol Hasegawa Tesoro+, and Helen Krone +. He is survived by brother, Allen Hasegawa of Las Vegas; sister, May Sakamoto (Bill) of Kahului, Maui; children, Yma Hasegawa-Motooka, Melissa Hasegawa, David R.E. Hasegawa; Grandchildren: Kupono Orta, Melia Orta, Melika Orta, Isa-Lei Orta, and Bryson Hasegawa, Skylar and Elys Motooka; Great-grandchildren: Healani Orta-Takahama, Mahina Orta-Domagalski, and Mali’e Orta-Domagalski.
Memorial Service will be held on July 10, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church, Kahului, Maui. Visitation starting at 9:00 a.m. and Service at 11:00 a.m.. Inurnment at 1:00 p.m. Maui Veterans Cemetery, 1295 Makawao Avenue Makawao, HI 96768
