Flor was born on October 27, 1937, in Buttong, Laoag City, Philippines, to Gregorio Corpuz and Basiliza Pascual. He later made Maui his home, where he built a life centered on hard work, faith, and family.
Flor’s strong work ethic was evident throughout his life. He began working as a papaya picker in Pahoa, Hilo in 1978. In 1979, he joined HC&S (Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company), where he worked in both the irrigation and carpentry divisions, eventually retiring as a Lead Carpenter in 2000. From 1984 to 1999, he also worked in maintenance at Kahului Airport with Host International. Following his retirement, Flor continued his passion for building by obtaining a contractor’s license and spent many years building and remodeling homes from 2000 to 2013.
Flor found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved to eat, especially enjoying seafood buffets. He enjoyed listening to country music, watching action movies, and reading magazines and newspapers. A man of faith, he faithfully attended Sunday services at Christ the King Church. After Mass, he and his wife loved dining together at Sheik’s Restaurant, as well as visiting local favorites like the food court and Genki Sushi. Above all, Flor had a deep love for travel—taking road trips throughout California, visiting family in the Philippines, and making frequent trips to Las Vegas several times a year.
Above all, Flor cherished time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Luisa Hernandez Corpuz; his sister, Corazon Ventura of Pahoa, Hawaii; and his children: Cynthia (Jimmy) Bruno, Alex (Remy) Corpuz, Mary Ann (Billy) Yanos, Allan (Terri) Corpuz, Alma (Willen) Coloma, Abden (Delia) Corpuz, Aida Corpuz Swasy, and Alwin (Roselily) Corpuz.
He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jeiner Bruno, Jonathan Bruno, Jonelle Chuch, Ashton Corpuz, Casey Corpuz, Vanessa Asato, Sydney Yanos, Shelby Shimabukuro, Summer Dancel, Bryson Corpuz, Sean Corpuz, Keven Piano, Kealen Coloma, Ande Pasua, Kevin Lacaden, Dillon Swasy, Anna Marie Corpuz, and Arabella Corpuz; and his great-grandchildren: Ivan Bruno, Ethan Bruno, Jayden Adzuara, Zyla Ivory Shimabukuro, Zara Shimabukuro, Cayden Piano, Camden Piano, Reanne Dagupion, Kristi Dagupion, Dreyson Kealohapau‘ole, and Zyden Lacaden.
