

Gregory James Walls, a beloved and longtime resident of old Waikapu, Maui, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home at the age of 82 on April 2, 2024. He was in the place he loved most and was being attended to by family.
Greg was born in Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada on October 17, 1941, to William and Kathleen Walls. He grew up in Cowley, Alberta, where he excelled at everything. After graduating from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks!) Greg pursued a career as a Certified Chartered Accountant (Canada’s version of CPA).
Most of his adult career was spent in Hawaii where he rose to leadership positions in financial institutions, hotels, and business ownership. He loved teaching at Maui Community College and forensic accounting. His dedication and hard work earned him the respect of his colleagues. He served his community in various volunteer opportunities and was a proud member and past president of Kiwanis Club of Maui.
Greg was a loving father, and grandfather (Tutu Kane). He is survived by his childrenChristopher Gregory, Burke Alexander, and Alan Kaleo and his grandchildren Daniel Christopher, Kimberly Alice, Dawson Kekoa, Maile Janice, Axel Joann, Ashton Juwan and Aaron Kaleo, and his great grandson Noah Benjamin. He loved his family and bragged about them every chance he had.
Greg loved woodworking, restoring classic cars, eating local food (oxtail soup was his favorite) and watching his beloved Oregon Ducks and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Greg will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. He had a knack for making people laugh and could light up any room with his infectious smile. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anthony Church, Wailuku, Maui on June 15, 2024. Visitation will start at 9 a.m. and funeral Mass at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Hospital for Children. Greg’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
