Joseph Baylosis, US Army Vietnam War Veteran, passed away peacefully on the morning of 15 January 2026 at the age of 88. Joseph is survived by his wife Bonnie Sue; children Jolene, Susan and Daniel; Sisters (4), Brother, Grandchildren (4) and Great Grandchildren (8).
Joseph began his 20 year military career in 1955 when he joined the US Army. He served numerous overseas tours to include Germany, Vietnam and Korea. Joseph served honorably, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. Some of his more notable awards include the Bronze Star Medal with Valor and the Purple Heart Medal; awarded for demonstrating courageous acts of heroism during conflict.
Upon his retirement from military service, Joseph returned home to the island of Maui. Here he was able to settle into his home with his family and with more time on his hands, Joseph was able to cultivate his green thumb growing various plants, flowers and fruits in his yard. This passion carried over into his civilian career as a tour guide and eventually as a landscaper for the Kahului Airport. He concluded his second career with the State of Hawaii as the Supervisor of the Lost and Found Department at the Kahului Airport.
Once fully retired, Joseph was able to throw himself into all the things he loved, spending time in his yard with his plants, hunting, talking-story, making people laugh and being the best Papa to his grandkids and eventually great-grandkids. He is deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held at Norman’s Mortuary on Thursday, February 12, 2026; Visitation starting at 8:00 a.m.; Service at 12:00 p.m., Burial 1:00 p.m. at Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao.
