

Bernard was born to Vernell Jenkins and Bernard Hancock on December 2, 1960. He was the middle child of 5 and grew up in Washington, DC with his 2 sisters; Vivian & Terri Jenkins and 2 brothers; Michael & Tyrone Jenkins. He graduated from Eastern High School in Washington, DC. As a civil servant employee for 21 years, he retired in 2016 from Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
Bernard was an avid sports fan and loved the Miami Dolphins. He enjoyed travelling and fishing and had the gift to gab. He could talk and preach all day about anything and everything. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with young adults.
After meeting and dating in 1987, Bernard and Chaynae lost contact for 21 years. They reconnected on facebook in 2013 and married a year later. Bernard married Chaynae McKinnie on August 4, 2014 in Fort Washington, MD and relocated to Waldorf, MD to start their lives together.
Bernard was pre-deceased by his father, Bernard Hancock; his sister, Vivian Jenkins-Clarke; and brother, Michael Jenkins. He is survived by his wife, Chaynae McKinnie; his son, Jamel Richardson; his stepchildren, Chayla McKinnie, Chanae McKinnie, Almeta Johnson, Almanda Johnson, Charles Miles & Frank Miles; his mother Vernell Jenkins; his sister, Terri Jenkins; his brother, Tyrone Jenkins; his aunt, Rose Washington; his uncle Bobby Jenkins; and nieces, Latika Jenkins and Vernetta Jenkins.
A private memorial service and homegoing will take place on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 11am in Bound Brook, NJ to celebrate Bernard’s life. The family is grateful for all condolences
