

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 1, 2015, in Hanska, Minnesota, in the presence of his wife of 46 years. A lifelong resident of Washington, D.C., and Oxon Hill, Maryland, he moved to Hanska in 2010. Mr. Klee was born on August 19, 1924 in Washington, D.C., to the late Karl and Mattie (Hamilton) Klee. He graduated from Eastern High School in 1942, served in the U. S. Navy from September 30, 1943 until May 19, 1946, and received a B.S. in Physics from the University of Maryland in 1951. Mr. Klee was a physicist at the Naval Research Laboratory in the Acoustics Division when he retired in 1979. He is survived by his wife, Lyla (Haukvik) Klee of Hanska, son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Lilia Klee, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, daughter and son-in law, Lydia and Steve Webb, of Tieton, Washington, son and daughter-in–law, Paul and Holly Klee, of Darnestown, Maryland, four grandchildren Shanna Webb, of Tieton, Washington, Tiffany Brugnone of Yakima, Washington, Ryan Klee of Baltimore, Maryland, and Lauren Walter of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and two great-grandchildren Jacey Brugnone of Tieton, Washington and Ralph Walter of Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Gretchen (Kernekin) Klee, and a sister, Marietta Pollard. A memorial service will be held on February 9, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 6201 Coventry Way, Clinton, Maryland. Interment at Arlington National Cemetery will take place at a later date. Contributions in memory of Charles Klee may be sent to American Stroke Association or American Diabetes Association.
