Mabel A. "Nan" Higgs

Mabel A. Higgs died on March 12th 2012 at the age of 85 at The St.Mary's Nursing Home in Leonardtown, MD. She was born on February 7th, 1927 in Washington DC. to the late Arthur and Nettie Day. Wife of the late George W. Higgs, she is survived by her children Shirley Stultz and her husband Roger, Lawrence R. Higgs and his wife Annette, George W. Higgs Jr. and his wife Jo Ann, sister Jean Davis, grandchildren Michelle Davis, Dennis Stultz, Rachel Fieldmeir, Sherri Jilek, George R. Higgs and Billy Higgs, great grandchildren Benjamin Davis, Nicholas Stultz, Lacey Ellison, Hannah Higgs, Jordan Higgs, Sean Jilek, Caitlyn Jilek, Haliey Higgs, Matthew Higgs, Larry Higgs and Emily Jilek, great, great grandchildren Tabitha and Benjamin Davis Jr.. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Higgs was preceded in death by her sisters Joan, Frances and Edith and brothers Robert, Earl and Lawrence.

In earlier years Mabel enjoyed camping and boating with her late husband, a tradition her children continue today with their families. She was a doll maker and experienced gardener. There wasn't a flower she couldn't grow. She was passionate about feeding and caring for the outdoor birds and animals. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren. Family will receive friends at The Huntt Funeral Home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where services will be held on Tuesday March 20th at 11:30 AM. Mabel will be laid to rest with her husband at The MD. Veteran's Cemetery Cheltenham, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to The American Cancer Society or Hospice of Prince Georges County.
