Sam lived a life defined by connection, curiosity, and joy. He was the kind of person who never met a stranger and somehow made friends everywhere he went. Sam was the life of the party not because he tried to be, but because his presence naturally drew people close. Conversations followed him, laughter found him, and stories seemed to gather around him wherever he landed.
He was a proud Army veteran published author and poet, someone who paid attention to the world and knew how to put feeling into words. Sam loved to travel and chase adventure, always eager to see what was around the next corner and to experience life fully. He carried that same sense of wonder into everyday moments. He had a deep affection for his cat, Mufasa, who passed some time ago but remained a beloved part of his life and memories. That love spoke to his gentle side and his capacity for loyalty and care.
Sam was a devoted and deeply loved father to his children, Samuel David Mohamed Stewart and Sakinah Domonique Angelica Stewart. His children adored him. To them, Sam was not only a father but a source of warmth, humor, and unwavering love. He was proud of them, spoke of them often, and their bond with him was one of the most meaningful parts of his life.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Regina Stewart, as well as his parents, Margaree Beatrice Stewart and Samuel Albert Stewart.
Sam is survived by his children and by their mother, Wanda Stokes, with whom he shared the enduring gift of friendship and the experience of raising their children together. He is also survived by his sisters, Angela Stewart and Tanya Stewart.
In addition, Sam leaves behind close friends Quinton and Takeela Saunders who were like siblings to him. Theirs was a friendship that did not require constant presence yet endured across time and distance.
Sam’s legacy is measured by the people he touched, the stories he told, and the joy he carried with him. He will be remembered for his laughter, his poetry, his adventurous spirit and his ability to bring people together. His absence will be felt, but his spirit—curious, generous, and unmistakably alive—will continue to echo through the lives of his children, friends and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.
