

Charles “Swá-luk” M. “Chaz” Wyman Jr., 78, of White Swan passed away on August 27, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born in Toppenish on October 13th, 1935 to Charles and Margaret Wyman. As a young man, Chaz served with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and was stationed aboard the USS Cowell and worked as a ship electrician’s mate class A E1 FR. After his military service he continued his commitment to the military, and to his fellow veterans, and was an active member of the Yakama Warriors Association. Throughout his life, Charles made many friends including Wilkins John, Slim Dick, Gene Yallup and Nick Mosqueda just to mention a few. It was with these friends and his family that he enjoyed his many hobbies. Chaz loved watching the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks play and he rarely ever missed a game. Charles was also known for his beautiful leatherwork, tanning hides, and for his photography skills. Chaz also enjoyed fishing on the Columbia River. Chaz followed the Washat faith and way of life and was a proud member of the Yakama Nation. On January 11, 2013 Chaz married Sandra Lee Speedis at the Toppenish Creek Longhouse in White Swan. Charles is survived by his wife, Sandra Speedis Wyman; sons, Jim Charles Wyman and Lawrence Wyman; daughters, Ila May Wyman, Michelle Brooks, Christine Arquette, Jeanette Watlamet, and Adrina Wyman; brother, Johnny Wyman; sisters, Charlotte Wyman, Mary Ellen Pimms, and Margaret Wyman; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Wyman; Patricia Wyman, Joanne Wyman John, Joseph Wyman, William Wyman, Delores Wyman, Jimmy Wyman, and Fred Lewis. The family would like to give special thanks to Miguel Linares for all the care and support he gave to Charles. A Dressing Service was held yesterday at Merritt Funeral Home with the Overnight Services following at the Toppenish Creek Longhouse. Burial will be held at sunrise today, Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Wishcum Cemetery in Dallesport, WA.
