Constance "Connie" C. Mach

Constance “Connie” C. Mach, 93, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011 after a short stay at Emerald Care Convalescent Center in Wapato. She was born Constance Cecilia Bauer on April 20, 1918 to William and Lucille (Devine) Bauer in Yankton, South Dakota.

Connie was determined to finish high school, so she lived with a doctor and his family through high school and worked as a nanny. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1935. She met William Mach in 1935 and they were wed on December 26, 1937. They moved to Washington State in 1945 where they lived and raised their family for over 60 years in the house Bill built.

She was a homemaker who kept the home fires burning while Bill worked part of the year in Alaska. She loved to read almost anything and passed that gift down to her daughters. Connie loved Reno trips in earlier years and visits to California to see her daughter. She was a lifetime member of the Ashue Grange and the Ladies Auxillary.

Connie is survived by her son, Bill Mach, Jr. (Donna) of Yakima, WA; daughters, Maryann Liniger (Myron) of Pasco, WA; Kathy Knutson (Nick Hollis) of Riverside, CA; Connie Rogers (Jim) of Wapato, WA and Carol Brackney (Joe) of Yakima, WA; also 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mach, daughter, Patricia in 1965 and sons, Robert William in 1940 and John David in 1954, also brothers, William and George Bauer and sisters, Lorene Lanning and Mary Baxter.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, October 10, 2011 at Merritt Funeral Home, Wapato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, October 11th at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato. Burial will follow at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
