Evelia B. Vasquez began her journey to heaven on November 25th, 2015 surrounded by friends and family as God called her home. Born on November 12th, 1937 in Brownsville TX to Jose & Consuelo Benavidez. Later she met her soul mate Federico and in 1956 and they planted roots here in Parker WA. They raised 5 children together.
Both Federico & Evelia worked in the agricultural area, and later at Libby’s cannery. Everybody will miss seeing her from 3-11pm at Del Monte cannery in Toppenish. If she wasn’t at Del Monte, she was dedicating her time doing what she loved most which was helping others. She was known for her big heart and endless energy. She was a member of the St. Peter Claver church for 59 years, and devoted much of her time to the church and all that God asked of her. She also spent many years volunteering at the Wapato food bank offering her time and earnings to charity which put a smile on her face that lit up the whole room.
After 42 years at Del Monte she decided it was time to hang up her hard hat and enjoy her freedom. In the last 2 years Evelia was able to visit family in Las Vegas, Brownsville, TX., Nespelem WA, and took a fun trip to Wendover, NV.
Evelia is survived by 3 siblings; 5 children; 12 grandkids; and 22 great-grandkids. Viewing will be December 1, 2015 from 3-6:00 p.m. with Rosary to begin at 6p.m. at Merritt Funeral Home. A Mass of Catholic Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato. Burial will follow in Reservation Community Memorial Park Wapato. We’re eternally grateful for the Doctors and staff at Memorial Hospital ICU. We all Love You and miss you. Merritt Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
