

James Richard Hooper, Wapato, passed away October 24, 2012 in Yakima. He was born to Jim and Genevieve Hooper on May 25, 1955 in Yakima and graduated from White Swan High School. Rick lived his entire life on the Yakama Reservation and was a proud member of the Yakama Nation. In his younger years was an avid rodeo member and participated in Team Roping with his father and brother. They were very proud to say that they went to the Indian National Finals numerous times over the years. Rick worked with his dad in the family cattle company and his hard work will be greatly missed.
Rick is survived by his father James L. Hooper Sr.; his sons James L. Hooper and Richard Hooper; his daughters Janice Hooper and Jenny Hooper; his sister Susan Hooper; his six grandchildren DJ Harris, Damion Hooper, Dillon Hooper, Kyley Pascua, Andy Pascua, and Niko Pascua; and his two great-grandchildren Niah Martinez and Alex Vega.
Rick was preceded in death by his mother Genevieve Hooper; his brother Fred Hooper; his sister Aurelia Hooper; and his maternal grandmother Aurelia Ross.
A Dressing Service will be held today, Friday October 26, 2012 at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato, WA starting at 2:00 p.m. An Overnight Service will follow at the family home. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Reservation Community Memorial Park.
