Passed away October 28, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Lasaro was born December 17, 1929 in Worland, WY to Rosendo and Maria Vasquez. In the 1940’s he moved to Washington.
He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Army as an Artillery Specialist.
On February 16, 1954 he married Estela Jaime at the St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato. Together they raised their children. Lasaro was a very hard worker and always provided for his family. They were never without. He dedicated himself to farm labor and being a licensed Barber.
He took pride in being a pro in cards and pool. To this day a pool table sit in his home that brings back fond memories of him and the time well spent teaching his children how to play. He also enjoyed “all” sports such as golf, football, baseball, but especially boxing.
Lasaro had numerous friends, too many to name. Friends, he grew up with and the ones he made along the way. Some knew him as Nonkie, some as Larry.
He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Estela Jaime Vasquez of Wapato, WA, his children, Larry Vasquez (Sharon) of Selah, WA, Jerry Vasquez of Wapato, WA, Phillip Vasquez of Wapato, WA, Rudy Vasquez of Pheonix, AZ and Laura Covelli (Richard) of Bellingham, WA. His grandchildren, Raul (Roy) Salinas, Elisha Sanchez (Shawn), Anna Taylor (Matt), David Vasquez, Michele Lancaster (Jake), Aaron Vasquez, Ryan Vasquez, Angelica Vasquez, Joanna Vasquez, and Rudy Jr. Vasquez as well as 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step dad Frank Foncea, his son, Jess Vasquez and his brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank Kate Mastenbrook, who was his social worker of Hospice Care and everyone’s prayers and support.
A rosary will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013 at 6 pm at Merritt Funeral Home with a Memorial Mass given in his memory on Saturday at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church in Wapato, WA at 10 am.
