She was born June 13, 1919 in Yakima, Washington to Robert Elmer and Eula Piland. Maravine graduated from Wapato High School in 1937, and she attended Yakima Junior College.
She and her high school sweetheart, Art Wertenberger, were married July 16, 1939, in a garden ceremony at the Piland Homestead in Parker Heights. They established their home there, farming and raising their family. Maravine was a lifetime member of the Parker Heights Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, Elder and Sunday School teacher. She was a 4-H leader, member and officer of the Federated Womens' Clubs of Washington.
After retirement she and Art enjoyed cruising the world with her sister and husband. Art and Maravine also enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their RV with friends. She was happiest however, when her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were with her. For Maravine and Art, family was the most important part of their lives.
Maravine is survived by her sons, Jim Wertenberger (Vera), and Ken (Lynda) Wertenberger; daughters, Lanah Casebolt, and Barb (Mel) Roh; her nine grandchildren, Kevin, Jeff, Brad, Chris and Corey Wertenberger, Douglas Casebolt, Darin Roh, Pamela Bennett, and Emilie Wertenberger Lantrip; and seventeen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Art Wertenberger, sisters Eulilla Campbell and Minabel Brott, and her cousins, George, Quincy, and Cap Palmer.
Our sincere gratitude goes to Bob and Kathleen and their wonderful staff at Riverview Manor in Selah, WA. for their excellent care and loving compassion during her last years. We also want to thank Joanne and Ellen of the Yakima Regional Hospice for their kind and compassionate support to Mom and our family. You all have made this last journey of Mom's life so much better for Mom and our family.
A Memorial service will be held at the Parker Heights Presbyterian Church on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 10:00 A.M.
In memory of Maravine, memorials may be given to the Parker Heights Presbyterian Church. Merritt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Condolences may be offered at www.merrittsfuneralhome.com
