Alice Elisabeth Grieshaber, age 82 of Sterling Heights, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones at home. She was born October 20, 1931 in Detroit, daughter of the late George and the late Harriet (nee: Taft) Savage.Following her high school years, Alice sought to continue her path toward knowledge and headed to Lansing to join the throngs of the Green & White where she ultimately became a proud graduate of the prestigious, Michigan State University. While attending MSU, she was an esteemed member of the Alpha-Omega sorority, a sisterhood of fellow students who forged some wonderful friendships and shared incredible experiences together during their time at school.Later in life, it would be that "other" campus calling her name as she & husband, Marv were devout fans of college football, especially when it came to the legendary Michigan Wolverines. With friends in tow, Alice enjoyed many-a-game, sitting elbow-to-elbow in the Big House while rooting on the home team at the U of M. Along with sports, another aspect of Alice's favorites was realized through travel and the plethora of places she was blessed to enjoy. With Marv as her traveling partner, the two globetrotter's managed to build quite the portfolio of pleasure with destinations visited such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain, England, Ireland, and a host of other exciting spots that enhanced their photo collection over the years. Yet of all the travels and trips enjoyed, one of the most cherished to Alice was definitely the annual trek to the Winter Palace in Marco Island, Florida. While proudly and eagerly donning the hat of "Snowbird," exchanging the wintry mix of the Mitten for the warmth & sunshine of the panhandle state not only made perfect sense,…but were 3 of the most rewarding months of the year for her. No shoveling, no scraping windshields,…just basking in the beauty and thanking God for a taste of the tropics while the rest of us were shivering our booties off up here. Alice will also be remembered for her faith, and for being a longstanding parishioner at St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Warren. As an active member of the church, she also served with many of the ladies in the Active Christian Women's Club who are some of the church's strongest prayer warriors. As a loving and supportive tribute to Alice's family, her fellow club members will be honoring their sister's memory by praying the Rosary on Friday afternoon.Yet of all the care and compassion that poured from Alice's heart, the greatest portion was always reserved for her cherished family. They meant the world to her,…and as the Matriarch, it was her strength and abiding love that held it all together. Though, comparatively, her family unit was small, it was certainly mighty in love,…due largely in part to Alice's role and influence in their lives. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Alice leaves a treasure trove of memories for all to reflect upon who were blessed to know her. She impacted many hearts and souls in her journey this side of Heaven,…and now she goes to join her beloved Marvin, and pave the way for the rest of us on the other side as a guardian angel. May each memory be warm, and each thought bring her close once again. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Alice was the beloved wife of the late Marvin who preceded her in death on May 8, 2014 after 58 wonderful years of marriage. She was the dearest mother of Julie (Daniel) Temrowski, Daniel (Jayne) Grieshaber, and Gary (Connie) Grieshaber. Loving grandmother of Mathew, Mikael, Lana, Lauren, Jessica, Tara, and Eric. Cherished sister of Pat (Tom) Bass. Devoted aunt of Claudia Sefton, Michael and Timothy Bass Visitation for Mrs. Grieshaber will take place on Friday, August 22nd from 3-9pm, with a 4:00pm ACWC Rosary Service, at the D.S.
