Angeline Antonia Lovejoy, age 99, passed away Monday, October 5, 2020 at her home in Brighton. She was born January 15, 1921 in Detroit, daughter of the late Anthony and the late Maria (nee: Motta) Oldani.
A loving homemaker and Mom, rooted in strong ethics from her Italian upbringing, Angeline was instilled with all the right stuff when it came to maintaining the comforts of home & hearth, and tending to the needs of her dear family. She always poured the best of herself into caring for them all,…and then at times, an extra measure got thrown in. This was never more evident than through the measure of grace, bestowed unto her by God, that she was given in understanding the monster called diabetes. Blessed with four beautiful children, it was a fateful day when Angeline learned early on that two of them would have to fight that dreaded monster with all they had. But little did the enemy know that the kids’ had a warrior in their corner,…and her name was “Mom!” Suited with her breastplate of maternal protection,…her sword of truth & knowledge in hand,…and the power of God as the wind beneath her wings, Angeline set forth to formulate a plan of battle in girding up her children. And so she began learning. She read everything she could get her hands on, talked to everyone she could, then ultimately shared her wealth of knowledge with her brave little soldiers so they could be equipped for a lifetime of promise amidst the challenges of diabetes. Her love went above & beyond in taking care of them and teaching them how to take care of themselves, as well. To her credit, they both have grown to be happy and productive adults who know their limitations, know how to plan a meal, and live healthy lives because they were blessed with a Mom on a Mission!
When the chores were all tackled and she found some “me time” in the day, you would have often caught Angeline enjoying one of her favorite “hands on” pastimes as she loved to knit, crochet, and dabble in needlepoint, too. Those hard-working hands of hers managed to accomplish a lot around the house on any given day,…but the handiwork she produced with yarn and thread were like works of art. Whether she was knitting or crocheting a piece of clothing, or putting that needle of hers to work in stitching together something beautiful, worthy to hang on the wall,…Angeline often used her hands with a flair for the artistic, and somebody’s heart was about to be enriched.
Angeline not only gave to her own, but her giving heart extended to her community as well. Known for years as one of the warm and friendly faces that volunteered at St. John Hospital in Warren, Angeline loved being around people and always had a smile and a good word for everybody. When she decided she wanted to take a position outside of the house, there couldn’t have been a more fitting opportunity for this gifted “people person” than the environment of a hospital. Over the years, Angeline touched multiple hearts and souls in those hospital halls as God brought each of them, one-by-one, along Angeline’s path. She made many friends, encouraged many lives, and ministered love to them all in her own unique way. The hospital was missing an angel,…but not anymore!
Angeline was the beloved wife of the late Joseph John Lovejoy, and dearest mother of David (Patricia) Lovejoy, Mary (Frank Phillips) Lovejoy, Joan (Keith) Hagan, and Joseph (Jacqueline) Lovejoy. She was also the loving grandmother of Erin (Eric) Garcia, Brian (Han) Phillips, Kevin Phillips, and great-grandmother of Finn, Reid, Rory, Leonardo, and Oliver. Cherished sister of the late Joseph Oldani.
Angeline will lie in state on Thursday, October 8th from 9:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church – St. Clement Site in Center Line, Michigan.
