Born during the Great Depression, Annie never had a middle name—something her family always joked was because they “couldn’t afford a middle name.” She carried that humor and humility with her throughout her life.
Annie was the beloved wife of the late Leo Diedonis, with whom she shared 46 devoted years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, hard work, and adventure. Annie was a proud and loving mother to Sharon Stewart and Kim Podlaseck, and the heart of a large, close-knit family.
She was a cherished grandmother to Eric (Gina) Stewart, Eric Michael (Michelle) Trotto, Deirdre (Ben) Faunte, Patrick Stewart, the late Brian Stewart, Jessica (Zach) Zoladz, and John Leo (Audi) Podlaseck. Annie was also a treasured great-grandmother to Brianna, Madison, Ronan, Gabriel, Elaina, Tobe, Kara, and Joshua.
Annie truly was a grandma to everyone. She was famous for introducing herself with a smile and the simple greeting, “Hi, I’m Grandma.” It was exactly who she was—warm, welcoming, and instantly family.
She found joy tending her garden, especially her roses and perennials, and took great pride in making her home a place of comfort and care. Annie loved traveling with Leo, flying around the United States and spending countless happy hours fishing together. Every few years, the two of them would remodel a room in their house, including a special woodworking room for Leo—lovingly referred to as his “doghouse.”
Among her many adventures was a memorable road trip to Texas in the 1980s, traveling by rented motorhome with her daughter Sharon. She also cherished her time with Kim, tagging along on trips around town just to soak up precious moments with her grandchildren.
Annie was well known for her cooking, especially her famous Hungarian chicken soup, complete with hand-rolled noodles and rib meat. The soup was never just a dish—it was a tradition, always served alongside a big family meal and made with love.
True to her generous spirit, Annie believed in giving to charity rather than receiving gifts. In her honor, donations in lieu of flowers are appreciated to Gleaners.
