Barbara M. Logan, age 78 of Utica, died Thursday, January 6, 2011 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. She was born on April 16, 1932 in Detroit, the daughter of the late Frank and the late Gladys (nee: Carver) Conway. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Joseph. While in her early twenties, the two met, fell in love, and decided to make it a lifetime committment by taking that fateful walk down the aisle and sharing their vows together. On January 15, 1955, they became husband & wife and would go on to nurture their love, raise a family, and build on the promises that they exchanged on that special day. Along with being a loving wife, mother and grandmother, Barbara took her caring & giving spirit outside of the house, as well, where she extended over 40 years of TLC as a Registered Nurse. Always mindful of her patient's needs, she exuded the utmost in care and compassion through her many years of dedicated service. When she wasn't working, Barbara enjoyed an eclectic array of pasttimes and interests. She loved the challenge of solving crossword puzzles, and some of her favorite TV watching included a good murder mystery. She was also an avid watcher, and contributor, of the educational & entertaining PBS channel. When it came to her interests outside of the house, she truly enjoyed the scenery and granduer that the Great Lakes had to offer. One of her favorite places to visit was found on Michigan's western shore in the charming & quaint town of Saugatuck. Barbara was truly a lover of the arts as well. From the various museums and art galleries she visited, she found great enjoyment through the many different expressions of art on canvas. One of her favorite places that nurtured this passion was the Detroit Institute of Arts where, after her retirement, she took her appreciation a step furher by becoming a volunteer for the organization. Another facet for her love of the arts was found in her appreciation for music, with the Classical genre being her greatest pleasure. And not only was her music a delight to the ears, Barbara's appreciation was also expressed through her talents in playing both the violin and piano. Then there's the refection by her children who recall how many times they would hear some of her favorite melodies filling the house as she loved to sing. But of all the things that Barbara will be remembered for, it will definitely be her unique sense of humor. Though there's numerous stories that could be told, her children recall a couple doozies that stand alone. Like the day that Barbara was exiting the doctor's parking lot, entered into traffic, and would soon come to learn that she had pulled into the middle of a parade. With no way to get out, there was Barbara in her car waving to the crowd as if she was meant to be there. Then there was the day that she was preparing to make biscuits. She took that ever-familiar Pillsbury tube, smacked it on the counter, and the whole thing blew up and plastered the biscuits on the kitchen ceiling. She was laughing so hard, she just had to go get her neighbor so they could sit and laugfh together. Laughter was important, whether she was the entertainer or the welcomed recipient. She loved bringing joy into the lives of others, especially those closest to her,...her precious family and friends. The legacy of love she leaves behind is strong and true, and the lives she touched along life's way are a testimony to the wonderful spirit she shared with all. She will be immensely missed and remembered forever. She was the beloved wife of Joseph. Dear mother of Kim (Randy Higgins) Szymanski, Karen (Dan) Bell, and Thomas (Gina) Logan. Loving grandmother of Emily, Elizabeth, Annie, and great-grandmother of Alexandria and Johnny. Sister of Peggy Ulbrich and Bill Hevia. Arrangements were entrusted to the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Rd) in Warren. Please share memories of Barbara at her guest book.
