

Charles W. Wood, age 79, of Warren, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Father Murray Nursing Home in Center Line. Charles was born April 29, 1929 in Detroit the son of the late Peter William Wood and the late Sina Alice (nee: Pritchett) Wood. Mr. Wood served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. during the Korea War conflict. Upon his discharge he became a Stereotype apprentice at the Detroit Times and Detroit News, and a journeyman at the Detroit Free Press. He also subbed at the Macomb Daily, Pontiac Press, Royal Oak Tribune, Oakland Press, Port Huron Herald, and Michigan Northern. He was a past president of Stereotypers and Electrotypers Union No. 9, their international merger. At the Free Press he also worked in Circulation and in Fleet Service. In 1986 he became a purchasing agent at the Detroit Free Press until his retirement. Charles was a member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Kramer Council 2835 of Center Line, The American Legion Post 67 of Clawson and served 25 years as an usher at St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Warren. In early years he enjoyed golfing, bowling, and showing his Siberian Huskies. He was also past president of the Siberian Husky Club of Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilynn (nee: Ceschin); children, Laura (Carter) Goodman and Alan Brandan Carter; grandchildren, Brian (Jennifer) Goodman, Alan N. Carter, and Brandan A. Carter; great grandchildren, Eric, Michael, and Steven Goodman; sister, Lois Marie (Dr. R. Gerald) Carlson. He is predeceased by his brother, Edward Peay. Visitation for Mr. Wood will be held Sunday 2 - 9 pm with a 6 pm Scripture Service at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road). He will lie in state Monday 10:00 am at St. Sylvester Catholic Church until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30 am. Officiating the Funeral Liturgy will be Rev. Tom Slowinski. Interment will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Penrickton Center for the Blind Children, 26530 Eureka Road, Taylor, MI 48180 or to the Charity of your choice.
