

Clyde Oscar Nichols, age 91 of Clinton Township and formerly of Warren, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Henry Ford Hospice at Bortz Nursing Center in Warren. Mr. Nichols was born October 21, 1918 in Farwell, Michigan the son of the late Samuel Oscar Nichols and the late Florence (nee: Burgess) Nichols. Mr. Nichols was raised in Farwell and Mount Pleasant where he graduated high school. He worked before the war at Vickers Corporation. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps having attained the rank of Sergeant. Clyde enlisted on July 15, 1942 at Ft. Custer, Michigan and was discharged on November 24, 1945 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois. After returning from the war Mr. Nichols worked for Gibson Refrigerator, Greenville Tool & Die, and Aluminum Extrusion in Charlotte Michigan before going to work at General Motors Fisher Body. Eventually this job would transfer him to the General Motors Tech Center in Warren where and his family would settle. Mr. Nichols worked for over 27 years at the Tech Center before his retirement. When Clyde was not working he enjoyed tinkering with projects around his home. His family said their father could fix just about anything. He also enjoyed planting his flower beds and reading. In his younger years with his family he would travel with their travel trailer throughout the United States and later in life he and his wife would travel abroad to Egypt and China. Mr. Nichols was a kind and gentle man whom his grandchildren fondly remember the silly times building crazy projects and being allowed to use all of grandpas tools without reprimand. Clyde Nichols was the beloved husband of the late Marion, and the loving father of Lee (Rose) Nichols, and Noreen (Thomas) Stevenson. He is also the Dear grandfather of Nicole, Stephanie, and Andrew. Visitation for Mr. Nichols will be Wednesday from 3-9 pm. at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 mile).
