Connie Jean Asocar, 68, peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 20, 2024. Connie was born in Detroit, Michigan and was one out of seven children. She was a loving and devoted wife to her best friend of 41 years, David Asocar, a proud mother to Carolyn Weeks, Milton Weeks Jr., David (Shaonte) Asocar Jr., and Stephanie Asocar, and adored by her grandchildren Jessica (Jim) Deryckere, Taylor (Nathan) Berlin, KayLee Bush, Brooklyn Bush, Jaiden Asocar, and Julia Asocar. She is also survived by her sister, Linda (Hank) Rigney, and preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Lucia and Arlyn ‘Pete’ Bussell, and siblings, Emmanuel, Steve, Petey, Ricky, and Tamie.
Connie’s family was her pride and joy. She loved every opportunity that she had to spend with them, especially Christmas Eve (her favorite holiday) which we all knew not to miss, or else… She also enjoyed travelling with her family with some of her favorite places being Downtown Detroit, Las Vegas, Frankenmuth, Mount Pleasant, and any new hotel that the kids/grandkids would enjoy. Throughout the years, Connie became known for her love for the Detroit Tigers – she even decorated a whole room in her house with Tigers memorabilia – so it was only fitting that the view outside of her hospital room during her last days had a statue of a man sitting on a bench with a Tigers t-shirt on.
Connie spent 27 years working for Fitzgerald Public Schools where she was loved by the students and her coworkers that became more like friends. Soon after retirement, she went back to work at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham, a job that she truly enjoyed. (She loved to tell us about the celebrities that she ran into there!) She recently “retired” again and got to spend her last few months at home with her husband where they enjoyed sleeping in, having breakfast together, watching her favorite soap operas (yes, Dave watched them with her!), and spoiling their cat “Kitty” and “darn dog”, Molly.
In many ways, she was a great example of the Proverbs 31 woman; specifically verses 25 and 27-28 remind us of her:
25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
The days that we had with her will never seem like enough. She will be greatly missed and will always be remembered by her beautiful smile, humor, spoiling the ones she loved, being the best secret keeper, and never wanting anybody to worry about or “fuss over” her.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 from 2 PM – 8 PM and Saturday April 27th, 2024 from 10-11 AM with a funeral service to follow at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 32000 Schoenherr Road, Warren, Michigan 48088.
In lieu of flowers, any donations made to the family would be greatly appreciated.
