Dan Miller, age 84 of Warren, died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at Ascension St. John Macomb-Oakland Hospital in Warren. He was born March 2, 1935 in Balkan, Kentucky, son of the late Dan and the late Maude Martha (nee: Nelson) Miller.
Dan was a hard working man with ethics that embodied both integrity and dedication. As a stone mason in the construction industry, he endured the challenges of a back-breaking job,…but the end result was always a testament to his experience and know-how; he knew what he was doing and accomplished each task with his own unique expertise.
When Dan was not working and found some time to play, the name of the game was golf and he would venture to the links as often as possible. Forever in search of that elusive Hole-in-One, Dan chased that little white ball around each course with a passion that rivaled that of the great Arnold Palmer. He might not have achieved the same score count as Arnie, but Dan certainly possessed the same love for the sport as the Champ. There was just something about enjoying a ride on the cart with a friend, swingin’ a few clubs in a bit of friendly competition, then heading back to the 19th Hole to reminisce about how it all played out. Nothing says fun quite like sharing a game of golf, and Dan knew how to make it a memory. Another sport that tickled Dan’s passions was the game of basketball. A fast-paced sport that kept him engaged and enrapt, Dan enjoyed the year-round entertainment that could be accessed through the many venues offered in fulfilling his “basketball jones.”
Along with being a hard worker and a sports enthusiast, Dan will also be remembered for his deep and abiding faith in God. A man by birth, but a Christian by the blood, Dan found sweet solace in the arms of his Savior. His favorite book to read was the Bible, and he garnered immense strength and guidance from his favorite scripture, Joshua 1:9, that says: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Dan was one of 17 children born to his parents, Dan & Maude. But as his walk in life panned out, Dan and his bride, Helen would be wonderfully blessed to welcome their 2 beautiful cherubs into this world, Dan and Cynthia. From them would come Dan’s treasured grandchildren, those five radiant souls that lit up his life with a youthfulness and verve that helped create some of the most precious moments he held close and dear to his heart. Family meant the world to Dan, and he did his utmost to pour the best part of himself into their lives. Dan touched a multitude of hearts and souls in his journey this side of Heaven,…may he now enjoy his reward on the other side, safe in the arms of God. Rest in peace, dear brother.
Dan was the beloved husband of Helen, and dear father of Daniel Stephen Miller and Cynthia Ann (Mark) Kabatoff. He was also the loving grandfather of Stephen Miller, Daniel Kruse, Kimmy Kruse, David Kruse, and Krissy Kruse.
Visitation for Dan will be held Sunday, June 30th from 5-9 pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
Memorial donations are welcomed to the Maranatha Church of God, 13700 Stephens Rd., Warren, Michigan 48089.
