David Bruce Corey, age 68 of Eastpointe, died Monday, August 17, 2015 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. David was born June 27, 1947 in Mt. Clemens to the late Bruce and the late Barbara (nee: Miller) Corey. With thanks & praise from a grateful nation, we pay homage to David for his service to our country as an airman in the United States Air Force. For answering the call to duty, and his willingness to stand in harm's way for the cause of freedom and liberty, we honor David's bravery and share our posthumous gratitude for his service. In sharing some of the details of David's life, the most poignant and heartfelt aspect would definitely be the treasured and loving relationship he shared with his bride, Shirley. Married for over 30 years, the two lovebirds found great pleasure in each other, and in the melding of their lives as husband & wife,…a journey that would bring both sunshine and rain along their path. It was 10 years ago, on July 21, 2005, that Shirley's battle with Multiple Sclerosis came to an end,…and David's life changed immensely. Yet through all the challenges and heartaches leading up to that day, David was there. For over 25 years of fighting this debilitating disease, David's strength and caring made all the difference. Of all the wonderful diversions he presented, one of the most profound was when he drove his bride across the country so they could enjoy the Glitz & Glamour of Las Vegas. At a time before Shirley's condition worsened, he took an extended time away from the job so their drive and memories wouldn't be rushed. Shirley was truly the love of his life,…and his actions far outweighed any words that might have been spoken. David's career path was right in line with many workers in the Detroit area back in the day,…centered around the automotive industry, of course. For David, that meant exuding his expertise as a Machinist for the "Classic Tool" company in Sterling Heights. Retiring from there just 3 years ago, David celebrated over 20 years of loyal and dedicated service to the firm. When he wasn't working, one of his favorite pastimes was enjoyed each time he hopped on his Honda Gold Wing and took her for a spin. He derived great joy and exhilaration from his motorcycle, especially when he was joining with his brothers on their excursions through the Smoky Mountains. It didn't really matter where the destination lie, just getting there on the motorcycle made it that much more intriguing and sought after. For those who truly knew David, they'll also attest to the enjoyment he found in his coffee and cigarettes,…especially when shared simultaneously. They may have been temporal and periodic, but they were staples that provided him daily escapes of pleasure.Yet of all the things that brought him the greatest joy and reward, they had nothing to do with "things,"…it came from his loving family. He loved and cared for them with immense passion and compassion, and the memories they shared were priceless. He leaves behind a legacy of love that is strong and true, and one that will be welcomed and embraced with each reflection shared. He will be missed immensely and loved eternally. David was the beloved husband of the late Shirley. Dear father of Joseph (Heather) Schram, Michael (Lisa) Schram, Dana (Shawn) Osowski, and Angela (Jonathon Cantrell) Smith. Beloved brother of Candace Kingsbury. Loving grandfather of Michael Brooks, Krystal (Darin) Wheeler, Joseph Schram, Lauren Brooks, Felicia (Andrew) Schrader, Jacob Schram, Jessica Schram, Nicholas Schram, Zachary Osowski, Samantha Osowski, Nathan Osowski, Dominik Smith, Daija Smith, Luke Cantrell, and great-grandfather of Kendra and Dayton Wheeler and the soon to arrive Addilyn. Special son-in-law of Sally Gray. Mr. Corey is also survived by the second true love of his life, his canine companion, Mona Mae Corey. David was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Douglas and Daniel Corey.Visitation for David will be held on Friday, August 21st from 3 -9 pm at the D.S.
