David was the most loving husband. Not a day would go by that he did not tell his wife 2-3 times a day that he loved her. His family was his life. He was married to his first wife, Ruth, for 41 years, and provided her with daily care until her passing in November of 2001. His two dogs Louie and Shelby were part of his family. They were more than just dogs; they were his babies, especially Louie. He was always protective of them. David loved trains and owned numerous train sets and lots of buildings and accessories. At Christmas, the train display would take over about a third of the living room. He always wished he had the room to set the trains up all year. He did have his own space; his pole barn he would go out and tinker in. It was truly his Man Cave. When the weather was nice, you would find him driving around in his golf cart, just around the outside of the house and around the lake. Throughout the years, he owned many boats he loved taking his friends and family out fishing on. It broke his heart to have to sell the last one once he could no longer get in and out of it. When guests came over, they knew the cards were coming out. He loved playing cards and played a lot throughout the years with family and friends. David was a dedicated worker at Michigan National Bank for 42 years before retiring in 1997. He interacted with many co-workers, who would become close friends to him. After retirement, he found his love of bowling. He joined a few bowling leagues and played until he no longer could due to health reasons. Quick with his humor and his witty remarks, he was always joking around. When you called the house you never knew how he was going to answer the phone. He will be remembered for his generosity, not only towards his family, assisting his daughter Lynn and towards her family with their living expenses, but also to animals.
He is survived by his beloved wife Judy Fitzgerald. His sons Glenn (Daphne) Fitzgerald, Kevin Fitzgerald, and daughter Lynn (Kenny Lancaster) Fitzgerald. His cherished grandchildren Andrew Romano, Shawn (Katie) Fitzgerald, Courtney (omar) Sharif, Layla Fitzgerald, and Conor Fitzgerald. Brothers-in-law Thomas Prokop, Randolph Prokop, Richard (Virginia) Prokop, and Kevin (Colleen) Prokop. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is preceded in death by his first wife Ruth Fitzgerald. His grandson Justin Romano. His siblings Virginia (Thomas) Stapleton, Everett (Dorothy) Fitzgerald, Norman (Barbara) Fitzgerald, Joan Lindow. His nephew Gregory Stapleton, mother-in-law Alexandra Prokop, and brother-in-law Daniel Prokop.
