Very sad to hear about Dave's passing. We've worked together for about 37 years. My sympathy to the family, and I'm so grateful and lucky to have known him, and worked with him these years.

Our family was very sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Beth and I saw him last at the cottage in August. He was a trooper. So many things have changed at Pine Knob in the last few years. We will all miss seeing Dave puttering with the fire, being the gadget man or enjoying the peacefulness of fishing on Hamlin Lake. I am sure that Dave's ghost will travel the path between cabins and we will still see smoke rising from out behind the brown cabin! We have fond memories! Our sincere sympathy. The Jjarabeks

I remember Dave from back at our St. Isaac Jogues days. We were reacquainted in Clinton Twp. years later when our girls played softball. I was happy to serve as vice-president of the league when Dave was president. Great memories. My thought and prayers are with the Shield family.

Kathy and girls, please accept our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dave. I remember the Clinton Valley Softball league as some of the most fun days of our lives. Dave was great to work with as a fellow coach and I really enjoyed watching Lauren and Karyn, my daughter grow up and enjoy sports in such a great, supportive environment. I will always remember him as a very involved dad who had the best interest of his girls first and foremost on his mind. I coached with Dave for many years in the girls softball league. There was not a nicer guy in the league. I have fond memories of Dave and I am so sorry he passed so young. My condolences to the entire family.

I have talked to Dave for about 8 years now. I was a customer of his and really enjoyed talking to him almost on a daily basis for the first 4 years. He was a hilarious salesman and sometimes I would just call him to chat about sports. I will truly miss him and will remember him always

My first memories of Dave was when I was a little kid playing softball. He was a coach on another team and him and his daughter Lauren to me at the time were just my sport enemy. As the years went by my Dad ended up coaching with Dave for my sister's team and slowly the Shield family became more a part of my life. Lauren and I went to school together, then college together, and now I can proudly say we live a block away from each other in Chicago. She is more than a friend, she is family and over the years her family has treated me as such. I have a lot of memories of Dave. I sit here and they flood my mind. I practically lived with the Shield family in the summers during college and many of my memories come from that time. I will miss sitting in the backyard with Dave when he would pull out the TV to watch the Tigers outside. I will miss hanging out with him in the garage where he was either watching sports or tinkering with something. Dave gave me one of the best birthday gifts I have ever gotten. It was a sheet cake from Wise Guys. You may think... THAT is one of your best gifts... but just think about it. We go to Wise Guys, the local bar, and Lauren and I see Dave slipping the server money. We were both thinking what is going on, what is about to happen. All the sudden this server comes out of the back with this huge birthday cake with my name and it was decorated. Who knew you could do that at THAT bar, Dave did, and he made it happen. It was the sweetest thing. One weekend Lauren and I went up to Ludington and it was just Dave and the two of us. That weekend was great. We fished and had fires and went to the bar. We tried to teach Dave beer pong but he kept cheating so we gave up. When we went fishing and I thought I may have accidentally killed a fish while taking it off a hook, he sweetly said lets find another spot so I would not see the dead fish floating in the water. I loved his goofiness and I loved that we could always be silly with him.

Cathy & family Dave and I worked together for over 35 years. He was a great guy and I have a lot of fond memories of him. over the many years, we shared a lot of jokes and family stories. he was dedicated to his family and his work. I will remember him for his love of Michigan/Detroit sports. He loved to follow the weather including major storms. He was Central Steel Detroit's unofficial weatherman. He was always more accurate than the weather people. He will be missed. Larry Turner

I worked in the warehouse at CSW with With Dave from when he started there until I retired in 2010 he was a great guy and we had lots of laughs, at the Golf outings and when we bowled together on the same team him, Ken,Bob,Joe and myself he will be missed by all who knew him.

I had the pleasure of working with Dave for over 20 years. Rarely was he ever anything but friendly, out going, and of course, professional. I will miss his somewhat strange sense of humor. Condolences and prayers for the family. May you rest in peace my friend.

I was blessed to have had the pleasure of working with David for the past few years as a customer of Central Steel & Wire. The thing I do know about David is that he enjoyed his job and he was good at what he did. He added his personality and his sense of humor to his job and made it FUN. Being your little cousin was always very exciting. I never knew what to expect out of you. The time you through Peppy out the upstairs window and made it into the pool was awesome.
