Donald J. MacGillivray, age 62 of New Baltimore, died September 23, 2014 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, Michigan. He was born December 7, 1951 in Owosso, Michigan, son of the late William and Vivian MacGillivray.Though he was born further north of the Detroit area, Donald's family eventually relocated and settled in the growing community of East Detroit (now Eastpointe) where he grew up and attended school,…and would ultimately become quite involved in the school's sporting venues, specifically football, baseball, and basketball. He was an avid athlete, so much so that his achievements earned him dual athletic scholarships (football & baseball) to Hillsdale College. It is there that Donald received his Bachelors Degree in Business, knowledge and training he put to work as a Materials Manager for Enterprise Automotive Systems where he extended the utmost in dedicated service for over 21 years. When he wasn't working, one of Donald's favorite pastimes was enjoying a day on the links taming the golf course. He loved the game of golf and played it as often as he could. Along with his sporting history and recent participations, Donald also enjoyed watching a variety of sporting events,…and was always willing to enter into a discussion or comment upon sports of any kind.Donald was also quite the History Buff, often learning much of what he knew from the various documentaries on television and the plethora of books he loved to devour. He was immensely educated about the subject and reveled in the many conversations he shared with family and friends. Donald's hunger for history also found him enveloped within the documenting of his family tree, as well.Yet of all his favorite pastimes and things to do, nothing could match the joys and pleasures of spending time up north at the family cottage. He absolutely loved the outdoors, especially when it came time for heading out on the lake. There was just something special and invigorating about escaping the concrete jungle for the serenity and peace of Michigan's north country,…and even better when it was shared with loved ones and friends.A loving husband, father, son, brother and friend, Donald leaves this mortal coil way too soon,…but not without impacting many hearts and lives with his loving and charismatic personality. He was always there for others, and always made them feel like they were the most special ones in the room. He leaves behind a storehouse of treasured memories for those to draw upon who were blessed to know him. Go Rest High, Brother.
