Donald Frank Rush, "Skinny," age 67 of Warren, died Thursday, October 18, 2018 at home. He was born September 18, 1951 in Detroit, son of the late Frank and the late Betty (nee: Bieszk) Rush.Donald was a simple man with simple tastes, but with a broad and inquisitive intellect. Possessing a little bit of Matlock and a little bit of Marcus Welby, M.D., he loved immersing himself in various books and reference materials in an effort to diagnose illnesses. Donald was both intrigued and fascinated by everything having to do with the sciences of healing and did all he could to stay abreast of how society was progressing and getting closer to cures. Yet for as much as he poured over countless books in his medical quests, Donald also loved plugging into his sporting side through his attraction to the All-American sport of baseball. Whether at a game or in front of the TV, he enjoyed spending time supporting his iconic Detroit Tigers. Donald was also known for his penchant in collecting both coins and stamps. Yet another example of his defined intellect, Donald could easily spend hours perusing and examining both for their intricate details,…then just sitting back and taking in the pride and honor of owning such interesting pieces of history. Putting his mind to work was always an exciting and welcomed challenge for Donald, especially when the opportunity presented itself for a stimulating game of chess. Known as the Gentleman's Game, Donald certainly knew his way around the board having played for most of his life. On more of a relaxed level, Donald could often be easily entertained through a rousing game of cards. Nothing says fun like getting some family or friends around the table, sharing in some friendly banter and conversation, and tossing some cards around for a little sociable competition. Playing cards is always a great party filler, and Donald was always happy to take a seat at the table. But when it came to gaming, the Big Daddy of them all for Donald was enjoyed with each trip he made to the casino. He loved giving Ol' Lady Luck a run for her money,…in the hopes of recuperating some of his given away over the years. A beloved son, brother and uncle, Donald was a loving soul who lived simply, laughed heartily, and loved with all he had. His family and friends meant the world to him,…as did he to them. He leaves his own, unique mark on the world, and an even greater one on the hearts of those he held close and dear. He rests safely now, cradled in the arms of God,…and will truly be missed. Donald was the beloved son of the late Frank and Betty Rush. Dearest brother of Chuck (Susan) Rush and Susie (Gary) Singleton. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation for Donald will be held Sunday, October 21st from 3-9 pm, with a 7:00 pm Funeral Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Rd. at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd.) in Warren, Michigan. Officiating the service will be Pastor James Bostic. Please share memories of Donald at his guest book above.
